Even though there are many methods to keep your Notion dashboard clean and clutter-free, you still have to get rid of the content you no longer need. Otherwise, your Notion space becomes a repository of dead folders and teamspaces that make focussing on the current ones difficult.
Even though there is no way to delete a teamspace in Notion, you can archive it and make it disappear from your screen. Here are the three steps to archiving a teamspace in Notion:
1. Click on “Settings & members” in the left pane of your Notion screen.
The “Settings & Members” space is where you can edit your account settings. It could be switching to the dark mode, setting a custom domain for your Notion website, etc.
2. Click on “Teamspaces” and then on the “...” icon next to the teamspace you want to archive.
The “Teamspaces” subsection is where you can make all the changes pertinent to your teamspaces. From creating a new teamspace to managing and archiving them, all options are accessible from here.
3. Delete Notion teamspace
Click on the “Archive teamspace” option shown in red in the above image. With this, your teamspace will be archived by Notion, meaning, you won’t see it in your screen but you can access it in a different folder in case you want to refer to it in the future.
4. Verify successful archiving of the teamspace
To ensure that your Notion has archived the teamspace, jump back to the “Teamspaces” subsection inside the “Setting & Members” panel. Click on the “Archived” drop-down and select “Archived.”
You should be able to see the recently archived teamspace in the list. That would indicate that Notion successfully archived the teamspace.
5. Restore deleted Notion teamspaces (Optional)
Headover the “Teamspaces” subsection within the “Settings & Member” panel and click on the “Archived” drop-down. Next, select “Archived” from the drop-down list. This will populate all the teamspaces that you have archived.
Click on the “...” icon next to the teamspace that you want to restore and select the “Restore teamspace” option.
How to leave a teamspace in Notion?
If you are not the owner of the teamspace, Notion will not allow you to archive it. However, there is still a way to remove the redundant teamspace. After clicking on “Settings & members” in the left pane, click on “Teamspaces”, and then on the “...” icon next to the teamspace you want to leave. Finally, click on “Leave teamspace” to exit.
You can see the “Leave teamspace” option in the last image of the previous section. The steps are the same as for archiving the teamspace, the only difference is that you must click on a different option in the last step.
How to delete a workspace in Notion?
There might be instances when you want to delete your workspace on Notion. For example, if your workspace existed to help you organize Notion content and streamline workflows for a specific project, it would be redundant after the completion of the project.
In that case, you might want to delete the workspace altogether.
Follow this guide to delete the entire Notion workspace.
Here’s why you’re unable to delete a Notion teamspace
1. You are trying to delete the default teamspace
If you have only one default teamspace, Notion will not allow you to delete it. Check out the next section to learn how to archive the default teamspace.
2. You do not have access to delete the teamspace
Only the teamspace or workspace owners can delete the teamspace. If you are only a member, you need to get your access upgraded to teamspace owner or ask the owner to delete it on your behalf.
How to delete a default teamspace in Notion?
Notion does not support deleting the default teamspace directly - you need to change the access level of the teamspace to Open, Closed, or Private (if you are on a business account) to enable the delete option. Here’s how to do that:
1. Create another default teamspace
Notice the DigiGrow teamspace in the below image? It’s missing the Delete teamspace option because it’s the default teamspace.
Let’s change that.
We’ll upgrade the access level of the other teamspace in the list - General - to default by including it in the list of default teamspaces. Type the name of the teamspace and click the Update button.
We are now left with two default teamspaces with access settings enabled.
2. Delete the default teamspace
Click the three-dots icon, next to the DigiGrow default teamspace and select the Archive teamspace option to delete the teamspace.
