Data analysts often need to merge or split databases to collate the right information for presentation or analysis purposes. This makes the ability to slice and dice data essential for any modern tool, including Notion.
Users store their data in Notion databases, which must be able to communicate with each other to simplify data access, sharing, and analysis.
While not as straightforward as Google Sheets, merging multiple Notion databases into one master database is possible — this guide explores how to do that.
TL;DR
Here’s how to merge Notion databases:
1. Ensure that you can access all databases to merge
2. Export the Notion database you want to merge into the master database
3. Open the master database in full view
4. Access the page settings and select the ‘Merge with CSV’ option
5. Select the CSV file from your local drive
6. Ensure successful merging of the two Notion databases
Let’s get into details.
1. Ensure that you can access all databases to merge
The process of merging databases includes opening and exporting them as well. You need to have edit access at the bare minimum to carry through with all the steps.
In this guide, we will merge the two databases in the below image for demonstration purposes.
The first database, ‘Social Media Calendar’ is the master database. We will merge the second database, ‘Marketing Campaigns’ with it.
In our example, the two databases share five common properties, ensuring ample overlap. It’s also worth noting that the columns from the second database, not available in the master database, get created to accommodate the new rows. However, the more properties the databases have in common, the more cohesive the master database will be.
If you intend to merge two databases, there’s a good chance that they are already logically related and have some common property types. By ensuring consistency of the column names, you can avoid having multiple columns with the same property type and purpose but different column names.
This check becomes even more crucial while merging multiple databases.
2. Export the Notion database that you want to merge into the master database
Let’s export the ‘Marketing Campaigns’ database.
Start by opening the database in full width by clicking the ‘Open as full page’ icon at the top-right.
Next, click the page settings icon at the top-right and select the ‘Export’ option.
We covered the process of exporting Notion databases in detail in another guide, but we have added a summary of steps here.
Export the database in the CSV format by clicking the ‘Export’ button.
Finally, select the local drive folder where you want to save the CSV file and click the ‘Save’ button to create a local copy.
3. Open the master database in full view
Click the ‘Open as full page’ icon to open the master database in full width.
We will import the CSV file into the master database in the subsequent steps.
4. Merge Notion databases
Click the three-dots icon at the top-right of the master database page and then click the ‘Merge with CSV’ option.
5. Select the CSV file from your local drive
It’s the same file that we exported in the earlier steps. Double click on it to import it into the master database.
6. Ensure successful merging of the two Notion databases
All rows below the red line in the below image were imported from the second database through the CSV file. You will also notice some new columns added to the master database, indicating successful merging of the two databases.
Alternate Method: Merge databases using the Notion Relations feature
For a more dynamic merge between databases, Notion’s Relations feature allows you to link databases directly without exporting CSVs. Here’s how to use it:
- Create two databases: Ensure you have at least two databases that need to be linked.
- Add a Relation column: In the master database, create a new column and set its property type to Relation.
- Link the databases: Select the target database you want to link from the list of available databases.
- Populate the Relation: Manually add related entries from the linked database into the relevant rows of the master database.
The Relations method creates a live, ongoing connection between databases, allowing real-time updates and continuous data linking. In contrast, the CSV merge method imports static data from one database into another, requiring manual re-imports for future updates.
While the CSV method is quicker for one-time merges, the Relations feature is ideal for maintaining dynamic, interconnected data across databases.

How to combine multiple Notion databases?
The process of merging multiple Notion tables is the same as merging two Notion databases:
1. Export all databases that you want to merge in the CSV format.
2. Import them all back into the master database using the ‘Merge with CSV’ option under page settings
Merging Notion databases is different from getting multiple databases in one view. Here’s how to do it.
