Notion truncates text in a cell when it extends beyond what the cell can contain given the space constraints.
However, you might want to see the whole text on your screen without increasing the column width.
You need to wrap text in Notion columns to be able to do that.
TL;DR
Here’s how to wrap text in a Notion table:
- Open the target Notion database table view
- Click the name of the column you want to wrap and turn on the Wrap column toggle
- Click outside the options section to see wrapped text
1. Open the Notion database table view
Create a new Notion database or open an existing one. We will use the below database for reference.
The LinkedIn Post Submission column hides some text as there are too many characters. But reviewers would want to see the complete copy instead of a snippet, making it easy to go through the text without losing context.
We will demonstrate how to wrap text for that column to display the complete text without resizing.
2. Wrap text in Notion
Click the name of the column you want to wrap and turn on the Wrap column toggle to wrap text in Notion.
3. Click outside the options section to see wrapped text
The toggle switch should turn blue indicating that text wrapping is activated. Click outside the options section to return to the table view.
As demonstrated in the below image, the text is wrapped within the cell. You can read the full copy without having to expand the column width.
How to wrap text in Notion gallery view?
Notion does not natively support wrapping text in the gallery view. However, if you have subscribed to Super Notion website builder, you can wrap text within the gallery view by inserting this simple CSS code in the code section of your Super Dashboard.
.notion-collection-card.gallery .notion-property__title .notion-semantic-string {
overflow: visible !important;
white-space: normal !important;
}
.notion-collection-card__content .notion-property__select {
overflow: visible !important;
white-space: normal !important;
text-overflow: initial !important;
display: inline !important;
}
.notion-collection-card__content .notion-property__text .notion-semantic-string {
overflow: visible !important;
white-space: normal !important;
text-overflow: initial !important;
display: inline !important;
}
Reasons why you can’t wrap text in Notion
1. You do not have edit access
You must have Full or Edit access to the database to enable text wrapping. Get the appropriate level of access, or duplicate the page and enable text wrapping - if the database owner has enabled duplication.
2. Narrow column width
If the column is too narrow, it may cause the text to truncate or not wrap properly as it won't accommodate the full text content.
